Workshop Agenda

Family-Focused Interventions to Prevent Substance Use Disorders in Adolescence:
A Workshop
May 5–6, 2022

Workshop Goals:

  • Examine family-focused prevention interventions targeted at preventing substance use disorder in adolescence;
  • Consider state policy efforts to incorporate interventions into statewide health care strategies; and
  • Discuss barriers to implementation for interventions, as well as examples of lessons learned from successful efforts to scale up such interventions.

A note on definitions: Several terms used throughout this workshop may have different definitions in different settings. For the purposes of this event, the planning committee uses these definitions:

  • Prevention: universal prevention addressing the entire population, regardless of risk level;
  • Adolescent: youth aged 10–19, with an emphasis on the earlier years in the range; and
  • Healthcare setting: including all healthcare providers (e.g., pediatricians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners), as well as health educators.
