APPENDIX A: STATEMENT OF TASK

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and host a public workshop that will explore how to potentially improve the behavioral health system with a focus on early interventions for psychosis, such as early prevention, identification, treatment, and recovery. The workshop will feature invited presentations and moderated discussions on topics that may include

  • The epidemiology of first-episode psychosis and the population at high risk for psychosis, including international data, and gaps in knowledge;
  • The current models of effective or promising interventions and service delivery for patients with early psychosis and populations at high risk for psychosis; and
  • Evidence on short- and long-term outcomes of early prevention efforts for those at high-risk of psychosis and interventions for those who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

The planning committee will develop the agenda for the workshop sessions, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. A proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
