Statement of Task

The Board on Physics serves as the National Academies' enduring strategic forum for identifying and anticipating the opportunities, strategic challenges, and transformative trends emerging across the rapidly evolving scientific landscape that will shape the future of physics.
The Board convenes leading experts and decisionmakers in academia, national laboratories, industry, federal agencies, scientific societies, related disciplines, and other stakeholders across the broader research ecosystem to examine the nation's most consequential priorities for physics and its intersections with other fields and shape National Academies activities that can strengthen the U.S. physics enterprise.
By catalyzing high-impact studies, workshops, and other activities, the Board helps secure the role of physics and a strong physics infrastructure in addressing significant current and emerging national priorities.
