Standing Committee on Nutrient Reviews
In progress
Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will establish a Standing Committee on Nutrient Reviews to provide general guidance from nutrient scanning evidence that can be used to advance progress in prioritizing nutrients and provide critical supporting evidence to inform the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) process. The precise composition of the suite of activities will be determined by the Standing Committee with consideration of input from stakeholders. The core functions of the committee include the following:
- Establish a set of guiding principles for the Standing Committee in consideration of its goals and activities;
- Discuss and develop approaches to evidence scanning to apply to the pre-screening and prioritization of candidate nutrients in consideration of a potential DRI review;
- Serve as a focal point for discussions on relevant nutrient priorities among government leaders and other experts in the field and related disciplines;
- Consider relevant topics that could be explored through activities recommended by the standing committee, e.g. workshops and other data-gathering activities; and
- Identify topics for discussion papers to update stakeholders.
