Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders provides an important venue for candid discussions about emerging and critical issues among key stakeholders, including federal agencies that serve as research sponsors and regulators; the private sector; the academic community; and the nonprofit sector, including foundations and disease advocacy groups. The Forum’s activities serve to inspire new ideas and shape the field, foster relationships and collaboration, develop an improved understanding of each other’s perspectives and priorities, and influence policies and programs.

Understanding Brain-Body Interactions to Advance Brain Health
Update
On Oct. 22-23 the National Academies hosted a virtual public workshop that brought together leaders and experts from different perspectives and sectors to explore the bidirectional communication between the brain and peripheral organ systems, how these interactions might inform new therapeutic development and foster a more holistic approach to brain health.
Unraveling the Neurobiology of Empathy and Compassion: Implications for Treatments for Brain Disorders and Human Well-Being
Update
The National Academies’ hosted a 2-day virtual workshop, May 19 and 21, that explored the biological mechanisms of empathy and compassion, their role in brain health, and their implications for real-world applications like workplace practices, technology, and education. Proceedings of the workshop are now available.
