TRB Webinar: Examining Exclusions—What’s Missing in the Historic Review Process?

December 9, 2021

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (EST)

Past

The historic review process has traditionally excluded certain communities. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, December 9, 2021 that discussed more inclusive ways to identify buildings for the National Register of Historic Places. Presenters highlighted the application of new approaches in community engagement and involvement. They explored how to develop broader questions during the research and historic context development phase to better understand the diverse history of an area. The webinar discussed expanded views of what makes a place historically significant or possess integrity in order to pinpoint how some of the long-established procedures may result in missing properties that are associated with historically and currently excluded communities.

This webinar is sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Historic and Archeological Preservation in Transportation.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.
