Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (National Academies) will organize and execute a public virtual workshop to discuss strategies to measure death by suicide by law enforcement officers in the United States (e.g., current and former police and corrections officers, dispatchers, and other sworn and civilian personnel, in public and private organizations). The goal of this workshop is to bring together relevant experts to review the existing data collections’ scope, elements, and coverage, in order to identify ways to improve the measurement of law enforcement suicide (e.g., ideation, attempts, and completions), including key subpopulations and correlates, in the United States. The planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, a proceedings of the workshop will be prepared by designated rapporteurs in accordance with National Academies' guidelines and shall be released to the public.
