The workshop featured invited presentations and discussions that explore what is known about current obesity treatment approaches and the challenges involved in implementing them, including their effectiveness (and how “success” is defined); payment for services; training of the workforce that provides the services; and health equity issues involved in treatment. The workshop agenda also addressed sustainable collaborations, new insights on implementing treatment-related interventions and policies, and research gaps in addressing treatment challenges. Participants discussed strategies that hold promise for progress in treating overweight and obesity.

An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a one-day public workshop that will explore the challenges in treating overweight and obesity in children and adults. The workshop will feature invited presentations and discussions that will explore what is known about current obesity treatment approaches and the challenges involved in implementing them, including their effectiveness (and how “success” is defined); payment for services; training of the workforce that provides the services; and health equity issues involved in treatment. The workshop agenda will also address sustainable collaborations, new insights on implementing treatment-related interventions and policies, and research gaps in addressing treatment challenges. Participants will discuss strategies that hold promise for progress in treating overweight and obesity.
The committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, proceedings of a workshop in brief and full proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
