Description
In the spring of 1995, the Fellowship Office of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine organized the first Fellowship Roundtable. The meeting allowed fellowship program administrators to exchange ideas and to find solutions to common problems that affect graduate and postdoctoral fellowship administration.
The National Academies is the primary host of the Fellowship Roundtable but, other hosts have included the American Society for Microbiology, the American Association of University Women, the Academy for Educational Development, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Postdoctoral Association, and the Council of Graduate Schools. Nearly 275 individuals are on the e-mail notification list for the Roundtable and at least 175 different organizations are represented.
At the Fellowship Roundtables, participants discuss:
- program assessment
- effective program publicity
- data collection and archiving
- International programs
- program overviews
- methods of evaluating fellowship applications
- mentoring and professional development
