In formation

Over the past two decades, the National Cancer Policy Forum has served a uniquely important role in examining both long-standing and emerging policy issues aimed at reducing the burden of cancer and improving the care and outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer from multiple perspectives. This summit will reflect on the major policy and science developments in cancer research and cancer care over the past 20 years and discuss key challenges and opportunities to further advance research and patient care for the future.

Description

A National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine planning committee will organize a public summit to reflect on the major policy and science developments in cancer research and cancer care over the past 20 years since the launch of the National Cancer Policy Forum, and identify and discuss the key policy challenges and opportunities to further advance research and patient care for the future. The summit will feature invited presentations and panel discussions on topics that may include:

  • Examples of major insights and developments in science, clinical care, and policy for cancer that have occurred in the past 20 years and their impact on patient outcomes.
  • Lessons from the challenges and opportunities in the past 20 years that could be applied to guide next steps.
  • Potential strategies to foster future efforts to advance cancer research and care.

The planning committee will develop the agenda for the summit sessions, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate or identify moderators for the discussions.
