The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, under the auspices of the Board on Children, Youth, and Families, is hosting a virtual public information gathering meeting for the Committee on Out of School Time Settings. The meeting will be held virtually on April 18, 2024 from 2:30-4:30pm ET. The Committee has invited young people and staff to share their lived experiences participating in or supporting afterschool programs from the following list:

Young people will share personal stories of their time in an afterschool program, such as how they got involved in their program, what they enjoy about their program, and what their participation in the program means for their lives. Program staff will share their experiences and perspectives on professional pathways in the OST field, including their motivations for working in this field, challenges they see to onramps and retention, and opportunities for professional development. Speakers will also share their perspectives on program quality, barriers to access, and measuring success.
