The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) operates and maintains approximately 200 laboratory facilities that support monitoring, analysis, and research on pressing societal questions associated with energy and mineral resources, natural hazards, surface and groundwater, biology and ecology, and environmental health. This study provides an external review of quality management practices that are already established or are under development in USGS laboratories.
