Strategic Innovation and Commercialization: Supporting IP and Tech Transfer to Advance U.S. Research Competitiveness

The Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable will convene a workshop for its membership and invited guests to discuss opportunities for enhancing U.S. economic competitiveness by improving intellectual property security and protection, time to market competitiveness, and U.S. leadership in international standards bodies. Particular attention will be given to cross-sector forums and mechanisms that promote information exchange and build capacity across the research enterprise. This meeting will continue GUIRR’s work of convening senior leaders across sectors to fostering the health and productivity of the U.S. research enterprise through collaboration and partnership.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop to discuss elements of U.S. economic security and competitiveness related to the nation’s research commercialization ecosystem. The workshop will consider U.S. competitiveness across three elements of technology translation and commercialization – intellectual property protection and security; time to market competitiveness; and U.S. leadership in international standards organizations. Discussions will explore policies, mechanisms, and cross-sector partnerships and collaboration to enhance U.S. strategic advantage in global technology markets. A rapporteur-authored proceedings-in brief will be published summarizing the workshop.
