Output Categories and Coding Notes

Output Type Notes on Coding
  1. Peer-reviewed publications
Journals in which the articles appeared were designated as peer-reviewed if they were considered to be peer-reviewed in any of three library databases that contain peer-reviewed journals: Scopus, Proquest, and Ulrich’s.
Publications were included in this category if they were published, or were described by principal investigators (PIs) as “in press,” “forthcoming,” “to appear in,” “being copyedited,” “conditionally accepted,” or “under contract.” (If publications were described as in progress in various alternative ways, they were coded as such.)
  1. Other publications
Included non-peer-reviewed journal articles, papers, paper series, working papers, reports, op-ed pieces, blogs, and newsletters. Also see above note on publication status.
  1. Books and book chapters
All books and book chapters, regardless of peer-review status. Also see above note on publication status.
  1. Conference proceedings
All conference proceedings, regardless of peer-review status.
  1. “In-progress” publications
Included articles written for peer-reviewed or non-peer-reviewed journals, or books and book chapters that were described by the PIs as “revise and resubmit,” “under review or submitted to,” “typescript,” “manuscript,” “draft available,” “draft in progress,” or “being reviewed by PI.”
  1. Presentations
Included conference presentations, briefings, or testimony.
  1. Products
Included sharable resources, such as publicly available software, websites, databases, patents, licenses, or training materials.
