Please join the Board on Children, Youth, and Families online on September 16, 2025 from 3-4pm ET for a presentation on its forthcoming report The Comprehensive Autism Care Demonstration: Solutions for Military Families.This report provides an independent analysis of the Department of Defense’s Comprehensive Autism Care Demonstration. The demonstration, established in 2014 and extended to 2028, provides applied behavior analysis (ABA) to TRICARE-eligible beneficiaries diagnosed with autism while it evaluates the appropriateness of the ABA tiered delivery model under TRICARE. The committee appointed to undertake this independent analysis was charged with examining utilization of the demonstration by TRICARE beneficiaries and providing an assessment of methods used under the demonstration, particularly in relation to assessing autism domains, measuring effectiveness of ABA, and adhering to guidelines and industry standards of care.

Please join the Board on Children, Youth, and Families, in collaboration with the Board on Behavioral, Cognitive, and Sensory Sciences on September 12 from 4-5 pm ET for the release of its new report Breastfeeding in the United States: Strategies to Support Families and Achieve National Goals.

This report examines U.S. policies, programs, and investments related to breastfeeding, assessing the health, social, and economic impacts of current rates, as well as identifying variances in rates and gaps in knowledge. It provides evidence-based recommendations to strengthen support for mothers and families, improve and expand access to breastfeeding services and supplies, and increase breastfeeding rates in line with national goals.

About

The global shortage of high-quality clinical training opportunities has been a growing concern for health professions education with far-reaching implications. Most notably in the United States, clinical training sites and slots are not expanding in pace with the growing number of health professional schools and students, resulting in heightened competition for available spots and difficulty for students to complete required training. Exacerbating the problem is the extensive burnout of clinicians and workforce attrition, leading to limited preceptor capacity. This workshop series will explore causes and potential solutions to the growing challenge of insufficient experiential learning sites across all the health professions.

The planning committee will select and invite speakers, moderators, and discussants to participate in the workshop series. Virtual sessions will be held in advance of the 2-day hybrid workshop on October 15-16 in Washington DC.

This event will lay a foundation for the main workshop on October 15-16 exploring innovative solutions to address the global shortage of clinical placements driven by high burnout, an aging workforce, and a lack of available preceptors and sites for students to gain practical experience.
