Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will appoint a Board on Gulf Education and Engagement (BGEE) to provide strategic guidance to the Gulf Research Program in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of studies, projects, and other activities related to education, training, engagement and outreach.
The Board will meet twice yearly, and on an ad hoc basis, as needed, to assist the BGEE staff in accomplishing its goals to: (1) support the development of a next generation of environmentally and scientifically literate citizens with leadership and capacity for solving complex social and environmental challenges in the Gulf of Mexico; and (2) engage diverse future generations to address the scientific, social, and environmental challenges associated in the Gulf of Mexico region through education, outreach, research and experiential opportunities.
Board discussions should identify topics that warrant further exploration via workshops, consensus studies, or other mechanisms and be conducted by appropriately, separately appointed ad hoc committees. The Board will not, itself, produce or be used in the development of any reports.
