Description

To facilitate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR) in performing its mission and responsibilities to strengthen the nation's health security by protecting against public health threats, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (the National Academies) will form a Standing Committee for CDC Center for Preparedness and Response (SCPR). The SCPR will provide a forum for discussion of scientific, technical, and social issues relevant to public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR). The SCPR will consider relevant issues including, but not limited to:

  1. A PHEPR science research agenda;
  2. Democratization of PHEPR education;
  3. Preparedness and response practices and capabilities;
  4. Emergency management activities;
  5. Individual and community resilience; and,
  6. Other relevant issues identified by the standing committee and CDC/CPR.

The SCRPR will convene at least three times per year to become informed of emerging issues related to PHEPR and will:

  1. Stand ready to respond on short notice to requests and other needs from CDC/CPR.
  2. Provide high-level strategic guidance to CDC/CPR on emerging issues, research, and activities through in-depth knowledge of the sponsor's programs, goals, and activities;
  3. Serve as a focal point for national policy discussions by experts and other leaders in the field; and
  4. Respond to CDC/CPR's needs for continuing advice through planning, strategic thinking, and program development.

The standing committee itself will not produce or be used in the development of any reports.
