About

Members of the New Voices program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a 1-day public symposium to examine cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral strategies to strengthen U.S. STEM workforce readiness in the face of rapid technological change. Rather than restating existing challenges, the symposium will focus on successful models, case studies, and lessons learned from past and present efforts to align education and training systems with national priorities.

In addition to preparing the future workforce, the discussions will emphasize strategies for reskilling and upskilling the current workforce, accelerating training pipelines, and ensuring workers can adapt quickly to advances in emerging technology areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnologies, and semiconductors. The symposium will highlight approaches that have supported adaptability, collaboration, and innovation at scale, with attention to how STEM workforce development underpins U.S. economic resilience, national security, and global scientific leadership.

The annual Laboratory Program Representatives meeting serves as a pivotal forum for the Fellowships Office to present a comprehensive status update on the NRC Research Associateship Programs (RAP) and Air Force Science & Technology Fellowship program. Join us at the National Academies for a workshop on leveraging the National Climate Assessment to empower communities!

The goal for this workshop is to contribute towards the ongoing efforts to broaden the reach of the NCA, with a focus on community engagement to enhance the impact and application of the report findings at local and regional levels. The workshop will explore best practices and opportunities for community engagement at various stages of the NCA development as well as dissemination process. Workshop participants will also share tangible examples of how the findings of the NCA are effectively being communicated and applied at local levels to benefit climate vulnerable communities.

The concept for this workshop was initiated by members of the New Voices in Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine program and is supported by Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and individual donor support.

Mirzayan Fellows will learn about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the government. The Mirzayan Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to obtain the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in science policy at the federal, state, or local levels.
