Convened by TRB, the 2026 TRB Symposium on Aviation Innovation and Research will be held June 8 – 11, 2026 in Dayton, OH. Participants will discuss emerging trends and issues to identify research solutions that can forge innovative concepts and strategies for implementation and support the future of the aviation industry,

Participants will explore a range of topics including how to optimize airport infrastructure, integrating new technologies into the existing aviation system, and developing solutions to safety and security challenges.

The symposium is expected to attract policymakers and industry leaders in addition to practitioners and researchers. The event’s dynamic format includes plenary sessions, committee meetings, lectern sessions, poster presentations, and industry exhibits. Participants will work together to identify research needs that could be considered for funding in programs including the Airport Cooperative Research Program. The interactive nature of the symposium will foster networking, collaboration, and knowledge transfer among participants.

Convened by TRB, the 7th International Conference on Accelerated Pavement Testing will be held July 20-23, 2025 in Auburn, AL, at the Hotel at Auburn University & Dixon Conference Center. This interactive conference promotes idea sharing, research, and showcases noteworthy practices and solutions.

Participants will be part of a unique forum to address the various aspects and benefits of accelerated pavement testing (APT) from an international perspective. They will gain insight into needs and upcoming trends for future developments in accelerated pavement testing, and contribute to mapping the future of engineering and managing APT. Focusing on accelerated pavement testing, the conference will benefit APT current and prospective facility owners and researchers, and road agency and pavement engineering practitioners who are interested in using APT data to develop improved methods of pavement design.

Presentations will cover project-specific investigations including asphalt binder performance, interlayer systems, hot- and warm-mix asphalt, concrete surfacing, cement stabilization, airfield pavements. Look for additional information on pre-conference workshops along with technical tours at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT)

Convened by TRB, the TRB Transit Safety and Security Conference will be held July 15 - 17, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Public transportation is one of the safest modes of transportation, although there are areas of risk. Fortunately, the public transportation and passenger rail industries have implemented programs, modified procedures, and implemented demonstrated technologies that have proven successful in mitigating these areas of risk and providing safety and security improvements.

This conference is designed to transfer the knowledge gained locally by agency personnel and practitioners as well as national and international researchers. Public transportation and passenger rail agencies will present successful outcomes and lessons learned from safety and security policy, procedure modifications, and technology pilots and deployments. Recognizing the significant contributions made by industry research partners, this event will include presentations on actionable one-world safety and security research findings.

The program will be built around four areas of focus:

Transit employee safety
Passenger and public safety
Emergency management
Transit security challenges

The conference will include plenary and breakout sessions.

Convened by TRB, the National Summit on the Future of the Transportation Workforce will be held June 2-4, 2025 in Westminster, CO. This event is the first national conversation on this critical issue since 2012. Thought leaders in transportation workforce recruitment, training, retention, and knowledge management will address the challenges faced in each step of the workforce life cycle. Attendees will include representatives from federal, state, and local transportation agencies; metropolitan planning organizations; public transit agencies; academia; and private industry.

This interactive two-and-a-half-day summit will facilitate innovative thinking and problem solving. The conversation will identify research needs of practitioners to ensure a resilient and skilled workforce for our changing modes and communities. The program will center around three key questions:

How do we attract and engage a diverse workforce?
What kind of workforce do we need for the 21st century?
What business models and tools sustainably support workforce needs?

In addition to plenary panels, attendees will participate in working group breakout sessions with discussions framed by short presentations. Several poster sessions will cover a full range of innovative ideas, approaches, and research.

Artificial Intelligence and data analysis have the potential to help the transportation system better reach its goals of providing safe and efficient ways to move people and goods. The DATA conference will bridge the gap between the data, cutting edge technologies, and computing processes and the challenges and opportunities for organizations and agencies to incorporate these into their workflow. Presenters will emphasize concrete outcomes and examples of advancing AI and data analysis within the transportation industry. Presentations should highlight practical solutions and programs.
