Family-Focused Interventions to Prevent Substance Use Disorders in Adolescence: A Workshop

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine hosted a workshop to examine family-focused interventions that have been used to address substance use disorders in adolescent primary health care settings. During this workshop, participants learned about existing state policy efforts to incorporate these interventions into state health care strategies. Speakers discussed barriers to implementation for these interventions, as well as examples of lessons learned from successful efforts to scale up such interventions.

Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will convene a planning committee to plan and conduct a 2-day public workshop that will examine family-focused prevention interventions that have been used to address substance use disorders (SUDs) in primary health care settings. The workshop will emphasize interventions to prevent opioid use disorder (OUD) in adolescence. During this workshop, participants will also learn about existing state policy efforts to incorporate these interventions into statewide health care strategies. Speakers will discuss barriers to implementation for these interventions, as well as examples of lessons learned from successful efforts to scale up such interventions.
The planning committee will formulate the goals and objectives for this workshop, select and invite speakers, develop the agenda, and moderate the discussion. At the conclusion of the workshop, a proceedings of a workshop will be prepared in accordance with institutional guidelines.
