The Board on Children, Youth, and Families (BCYF) held a public session, “Understanding Youth Perspectives on Civic Engagement”, on May 1st, 2024. This session engaged a diverse group of young people who shared their lived experience and involvement in civic engagement. Participants discussed opportunities for and barriers to youth civic engagement, the impact of civic engagement on youth well-being, and how parents, education, health care, and other systems and community-based institutions can advance youth civic engagement.

In commemorating its 30th anniversary, the Board on Children, Youth, and Families (BCYF) will hold a public session, “Science, Policy, and Advocacy to Advance Child Wellbeing: Reflecting on 30 Years of Progress.” This session will reflect on the impact of the board’s work and share insights on the pressing needs and priorities for children and families for the near future and beyond.

Incorporating Youth Voice and the Lived Experience in Research, Seminar

For research on topics related to youth health and well-being to be meaningful, it must also be responsive to the real experiences of youth today. The lived experience – or the personal knowledge about the world gained through first-hand accounts of everyday events rather than through representations constructed by other people – is relevant across all aspects of research, practice, and policy.

Join the Board on Children, Youth, and Families (BCYF) for a seminar that examines the importance of including youth voices in research. The seminar will highlight examples, both from BCYF’s work and from other projects across the country. It will also feature youth speakers who will share about their own experiences participating in research.
