Arctic Matters: Understanding How the Arctic is Changing and What it Means for People and Places Around the Globe: A Symposium

Completed

This symposium in recognition of the 2015-2017 U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council strove to highlight and build upon the relevant NRC body of work; illustrate why the changing Arctic matters to us all; reach audiences who are not normally engaged in polar science or policy issues; provide an opportunity for federal agencies to spotlight their relevant accomplishments and programs; and provide an opportunity for international engagement.

Description

An ad hoc committee will be convened by the Polar Research Board (PRB) to plan a high profile symposium in recognition of the 2015-2017 U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council. The committee will work with the PRB members and staff to develop an agenda, invite speakers, determine roles for partner organizations, publicize the event to target audiences, and host the symposium. In planning the event, the committee would strive to:

  • highlight and build upon the relevant NRC body of work;
  • illustrate why the changing Arctic matters to us all;
  • reach audiences who are not normally engaged in polar science or policy issues;
  • provide an opportunity for federal agencies to spotlight their relevant accomplishments and programs; and
  • provide an opportunity for international engagement.
