Biological physics, or the physics of living systems, brings the physicist’s style of inquiry to bear on the beautiful phenomena of life. Work in the field expands our ability to explore the living world and contributes to the scientific understanding underpinning a range of applications ranging from vaccine development to robotics.

A new National Academies' report, The Physics of Life, presents a compelling vision for the next decade of science in biological physics. The report highlights the importance of biological physics research and provides guidance for federal agencies, policymakers, and academic leadership on funding, workforce, and future research directions.

We invite you to participate in our upcoming report release webinar on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 2-3pm ET. During the webinar,members of the committee will discuss the key findings and recommendations in the report and take questions from the audience.

What are the most compelling questions for the field of biological physics in the next decade? What workforce and education policies would best support the research community? The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is undertaking a study to highlight the importance of biophysics research, identify future research directions, and assess workforce and education needs. Community input for this study is critical, and we invite you to attend a virtual town hall on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 3pm ET to share your thoughts on the future of biological physics.

A similar town hall was scheduled for the cancelled March APS meeting. We hope this event will serve as a way to get input from the entire scientific community, including the APS Division of Biological Physics.
