The National Academies' Food and Nutrition Board will be hosting a workshop series in September and October 2023 to discuss the usefulness of meta-analysis as a tool in nutrition research and for developing nutrition policy. The third and final workshop in the series will explore the interpretation and application of Meta-Analyses to policy related to nutrition. The objectives of the session are:

To recognize the risk of bias and publication bias on interpretation of results
To describe the impact of data errors on the conclusions of the meta-analysis
To describe the process for evaluating the strength of the totality of evidence, with consideration of the type of study designs (observational and interventions), and associated risk of bias
To describe the different applications of meta-analysis to research and policy and considerations of evidence evaluation for each

The National Academies’ Food and Nutrition Board will be hosting a workshop series in September and October 2023 to discuss the usefulness of meta-analysis as a tool in nutrition research and for developing nutrition policy. The second workshop in the series will address best practices for conducting a Meta-Analysis, especially in the context of nutrition. The objectives of the session are:

To use best practices for screening data for potential data errors
To utilize a system for evaluation of risk of bias of study design
To utilize a system for evaluation of study results, including precision and consistency of estimates, and the potential for publication bias
To explain how to interpret the results of meta-analysis, what to do if assumptions are violated, and whether it is expected to have higher statistical heterogeneity for nutrition studies
