The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine will conduct a series of five one-day workshops to examine the current scientific landscape and research opportunities for improving diagnosis within the U.S. health care system. Each workshop will focus on a different priority category of disease associated with a disproportionate share of diagnostic error and patient harm. The workshops will focus on infections (particularly hospital-related infections), acute cardiovascular events, selected cancers, diagnostic lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and diagnosis for older adults.
