This workshop, sponsored by the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, will provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas between professionals, policy makers, manufacturers, and users regarding the occupational and non-occupational use of respirators outside of workplace respiratory protection programs. These discussions will include an exploration of current respirator assessment and approval processes; existing gaps in respiratory protection for target groups with situation-specific needs, such as outdoor workers, wildland firefighters, and the public; research avenues; and best practices for communicating guidance to these populations.
