Climate-Resilient Supply Chains: A Workshop

Completed

This committee will examine the intersection of two critical challenges for our society and economy: supply chain resilience and climate change adaptation. The committee will organize and conduct a one-day public workshop on enhancing the resilience of supply chains to impacts from climate change, with attention to federal supply chains and sustainable development goals. The workshop will convene experts from the federal government, the private sector, the philanthropic community, academia, and non-governmental organizations, to identify climate impacts on supply chains and help identify potential research needs and possible strategies related to strengthening supply chain climate adaptation and resilience.

Description

An ad hoc committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and conduct a one-day public workshop on enhancing the resilience of supply chains to impacts from climate change, with attention to critical federal supply chains (e.g., fuel, technology, food), resilience and sustainable development goals. The workshop will convene experts from the federal government, the private sector, the philanthropic community, academia, and nongovernmental organizations to identify climate impacts on supply chains and help identify potential research needs and possible strategies related to strengthening supply chain climate adaptation and resilience. Workshop participants will also discuss and share their perspectives on public and private sector roles and data needs for strengthening the climate resilience of supply chains. Discussions will include those relevant to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to creating greater resilience for communities and to address climate impacts. A Proceedings of a Workshop--in Brief will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
