Institutions of Higher Education as Hubs of Knowledge in Responding to COVID-19: A Virtual Workshop Series

Completed

Forum on Postsecondary Response to COVID-19

COVID-19 has cost thousands of lives, disrupted the global economy, and has changed the way we live. But we're not defenseless. We have a better understanding of the nature of pathogens and unprecedented capabilities and tools to fight them. During the month of April, 2020, BHEW brought together academic, industry, and civic leaders from across the country to explore what had happened, what was happening, and what they expected to happen in the weeks and months ahead. Each conversation focused on how the colleges and universities are supporting the response efforts. Watch the recordings.

Description

An ad hoc committee will plan a series of seven webinars to explore the role of higher education in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to provide an initial forum for discussion and inspiration about how colleges and universities—and the researchers, faculty, and students who live and work there—can contribute to the public dialog and national response efforts. Some of the questions participants may explore across these events include:
• How can researchers help the national response efforts?
• How can/are laboratories shifting research agendas?
• How can we crowdsource scientists to improve information?
• How can we provide policy advice to the nation faster?
• What are models for volunteering?
• What are the implications of this being a truly global event?
• What are possible long term implications of postsecondary responses?
