Educational Pathways for Blacks in Science, Engineering, and Medicine: Exploring Barriers and Possible Interventions: A Workshop

The workshop will cover SEM educational pathways at the primary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels, and will feature the perspectives of SEM education experts, practitioners, and students at different points in their education. This is an initiative of the Roundtable on Black Men and Black Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop to examine (1) current educational pathways for Blacks in science, engineering, and medicine (SEM); (2) the barriers and inadequacies that exist along those pathways, including financial barriers; and (3) promising interventions to overcome the barriers. The workshop will cover SEM educational pathways at the primary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels, and will feature the perspectives of SEM education experts, practitioners, and students at different points in their education. A rapporteur-authored workshop proceedings will be published in accordance with institutional guidelines.
