Case Example Interview Questions

  1. What is the state DOT’s process for selecting a strategy for bridge replacements in complex scenarios? Is there a written policy or guideline available?
  2. Among the strategies that the state DOT has used, are there certain site- or location-related factors or characteristics that make a certain strategy more suitable or a strategy challenging?
  3. Among the strategies that the state DOT has used, are there certain bridge or design-related factors or characteristics that make a certain strategy more suitable or a strategy challenging?
  4. Among the strategies that the state DOT has used, are there certain construction management factors or characteristics that make a certain strategy more suitable or a strategy challenging?
  5. Among the strategies that the state DOT has used, are there certain cost factors or characteristics that make a certain strategy more suitable or a strategy challenging?
  6. Have any of the project delivery and procurement methods that the state DOT used been more suitable for certain replacement strategies? Why or how?
  7. Which strategies have been the most effective in gaining buy-in (e.g., from legislators or other stakeholders) for various bridge replacement strategies? How have you measured effectiveness?
  8. What are the state DOT’s biggest challenges for strategy selection?
