The Transportation Research Board (TRB), through the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), under the sponsorship of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is preparing a synthesis report on Funding and Maintenance of Complete Streets to document related state DOT practices. You can review the scope of this synthesis here.

Completion of this synthesis will assist DOTs in considering sustainable approaches for protecting the investments made in active transportation infrastructure while also aiding those in the early stages of developing maintenance programs. Your cooperation in completing this survey will contribute to the success of this synthesis project, even if your DOT does not currently have a Complete Streets Policy. We estimate that the survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. DOT survey responses will be shown in the published synthesis report. However, the identity of survey respondents will remain anonymous.

Alternative Transportation – movement of people by modes of transportation other than the single passenger motor vehicle, including but not limited to public transit, carpools, walking, and bicycling.

Complete Streets Facilities and/or Features – elements designed to provide safe mobility for all users that are constructed within DOT right-of-way and/or in conjunction with DOT road projects.
