Many transit systems have or plan to have exclusion policies that effectively ban violators from using the transit system for a period of time. There is limited information about how these policies are used and their efficacy. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that discussed ways exclusion policies are implemented and used by transit agencies, the major issues and challenges of the policies, measuring effectiveness, and the impact on crime.

Public transportation agencies across the country are exploring ways to respectfully support persons who are experiencing homelessness and minimize impacts to transit employees and the traveling public. Transit agencies have developed important partnerships with law enforcement, social service agencies, mental health experts, advocates for persons who are homeless, and others to approach this issue in a more positive way. TRB hosted a webinar on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that presented transit agency experiences and lessons learned explored in the TCRP Research Report 242: Homelessness: A Guide for Public Transportation. Presenters also shared the activities of Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) nationally recognized SCOPE program and the National Transit & Vulnerable Populations workgroup.

Standardizing operations data allows transit agencies to share tools to organize and validate data to make actionable decisions. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that discussed various tools for transit data as well as the development and adoption efforts for new specifications that will allow agencies to better organize information. Presenters explained the process researchers and practitioners used to develop a data specification for Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), Automatic Passenger Count (APC), and fare data. Presenters also shared tools to leverage location, asset, and passenger data for planning, maintenance, and other uses.

With the shift toward transportation network companies and the eventual adoption of autonomous vehicles, airports have to rethink parking revenues. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, April 7, 2022 that identified alternatives for non-aeronautical revenue streams. Presenters discussed methods for estimating future parking needs in an environment of uncertainty. They also illustrated approaches for repurposing existing parking facilities to generate replacement revenue, and identified strategies and technologies that are available today to help airports maintain or enhance net parking revenues.
