Join Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences and The Science & Entertainment Exchange for a screening and discussion of the film Canary with the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital.
Witness the extraordinary life of NAS member Lonnie Thompson, an explorer who went where no scientist had before and transformed our idea of what is possible. Daring to seek Earth's history contained in glaciers atop the tallest mountains in the world, Lonnie found himself on the frontlines of climate change—his life's work evolving into a salvage mission to recover these priceless historical records before they disappear forever.
After the screening, there will be a discussion moderated by April Melvin (Senior Program Officer, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine) with Lonnie Thompson (Film Subject & Paleoclimatologist), Alex Rivest (Director, Canary), Danny O’Malley (Director, Canary), and Ellen Mosley-Thompson (Film Subject, Glaciologist & Climatologist).
