Description
An ad hoc planning committee will plan and conduct a one-day public workshop that will feature invited presentations and discussions to (1) explore the history of health equity issues in demographic groups who have above-average obesity risk, and (2) consider principles and approaches to addressing these issues as part of obesity prevention and treatment efforts.
Workshop presentations will explore current policies and practices that perpetuate health inequities and advance health equity; mechanisms to support community-driven solutions that can influence the social determinants of health; and approaches for fostering multi-sector collaboration to address disparities.
Using obesity prevention and treatment examples, the workshop will explore issues related to the creation, implementation, and evaluation of equity-oriented programs, policies, and systems changes, including those that affect opportunities for healthy eating and active living. Presentations and discussions will address research needed to inform and mobilize equity-centered obesity prevention and treatment actions in the field.
The planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop, staff will post the slides and video recordings of the workshop presentations to the activity website. Additionally, the proceedings of a workshop--in brief and full workshop proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
