Description
An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a one-day public workshop to share best practices and lessons learned in health professional education and training in behavioral and social sciences (BSS). The workshop will explore such topics as:
• educational platforms for incorporating BSS into health professionals’ curricula (i.e., technology, simulated environments, interprofessional education, longitudinal curriculum);
• educating health professionals about the importance of the social determinants of health;
• continuous professional development for engaging health professionals to better understand their role in preventing or mitigating the effects of psychological, social, and behavioral factors that can lead to chronic medical conditions and illness;
• the potential return on investment for educating health professionals in BSS in terms of population health outcomes; and
• assessment and evaluation of education and training in BSS competencies.
The committee will develop a workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions.
