In progress
Scientific evidence has shown that diet and lifestyle play a role in preventing chronic disease. Yet translating this evidence into meaningful, motivating messages about healthy eating remains a challenge. Incorporating community engagement into research can help bridge this gap. This workshop will examine opportunities and issues associated with community-engaged nutrition research, with the goal of understanding how such approaches can support and enhance the uptake of evidence-based dietary guidelines to improve diet, nutrition and health.
Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a public workshop to develop an understanding of how community engaged research can support and enhance community uptake of evidence-based guidelines to improve diet, nutrition, and health. The workshop will feature invited presentations and discussions that will address how community is defined by different groups, methods and challenges of conducting community engaged research, and the potential for this research to improve the diet and health of a community. A range of perspectives will be incorporated including individuals with real-world practice in community engaged research.
The planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, organize the workshop, select and invite speakers, and moderate the discussions. Planning committee members may also serve as workshop presenters.
