The Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems (UGOS) Grants are part of an initiative that seeks to improve forecasts of the dynamics in the Gulf in spatial and time scales useful for a broad community of stakeholders.

The UGOS Grants are intended to support activities that are focused on improving the skill of sustained continuous operations forecasts, and associated physical understanding, of ocean dynamics for the reduction of risks in offshore energy exploration and production in regions of the Gulf where deep-water drilling and production occur and/or anticipated. Through the UGOS initiative, the GRP has supported 15 research grants over two cycles that are related to ocean observations and modeling in the Gulf.
