Building Resilience in the Face of Emerging Threats to Child and Youth Well-Being: A Workshop

Completed

With emerging threats to child and youth well-being, whether it be the COVID-19 Pandemic's impact on mental health or climate change, it is imperative that resilience be built in the face of them. In response to these threats, The Forum for Children's Well-Being will host a three day virtual workshop on October 18, 19, and 20, 2022 from 2pm-4pm ET to examine how to promote well-being in the context of various factors. The workshop will also consider community contexts and strengths based solutions that may support child and youth well-being as well as feature lived experience perspectives and expert presenations.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize and convene a public workshop focused on building resilience in the face of emerging threats to child and youth well-being. The workshop will examine how to promote well-being in the context of factors such as increased gun violence, climate change, the behavioral health workforce shortage, substance use, anti-LGBTQ policies, and opposition to anti-racism. It will consider community contexts and strengths-based solutions that may support child and youth well-being. The workshop will feature lived experience perspectives and expert presentations. The planning committee will develop the agenda, identify meeting objectives, and select appropriate speakers. A proceedings-in-brief will be prepared by a rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
