The workshop will explore adding measures of prior and current criminal justice system involvement to household-based health surveys of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), such as the National Health Interview Survey, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and others. Justice-involved populations have gradually gained recognition as vulnerable to poor health outcomes, including high rates of infectious diseases and behavioral health conditions. Discussions at the workshop will inform future DHHS selection of measures of involvement with the criminal justice system for potential inclusion in population surveys of health.
