The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the primary federal entity charged to collect, collate, analyze, and report complete statistics on the condition of American education. Federal statistical agencies have been facing declining budgets and declining public cooperation with federal surveys, which diminishes the utility of the data, and the increasing data collection costs. This consensus study will bring together a multidisciplinary panel to prioritize areas and activities for NCES in the next decade to work towards modernizing education statistics and utilizing multiple sources of data for their statistics.
