The committee of Nutrient Requirements of Swine: 12th Revised Edition will prepare an update to the 2012 Eleventh Edition. The committee will prepare a report that reviews the scientific literature on the energy and nutrient requirements of Swine and make recommendations on the requirements based on their review and analyses.
Description
A committee will conduct an in-depth review of the scientific literature on the nutritional needs of swine and prepare a report that revises and updates the 11th edition of Nutrient Requirements of Swine.
Based on the literature review, the committee’s report (the 12th edition) will provide updated information on the energy and nutrient requirements of swine in all life phases and types of production. The report will include a review of the effects of feed additives and feed processing on energy and the nutrient availability of all commonly used ingredients. In addition, the committee will address the nutrient composition and nutrient bioavailability of a wide range of ingredients and their utilization by swine, and incorporate information about the greenhouse gas footprint of feedstuffs.
The report will describe strategies to increase nutrient retention by the animals to reduce environmental pollution through excretion. An update of the current computer model to calculate nutrient requirements may be developed. The report will also identify future areas of needed research, such as the carbon footprint of swine diets and production, and the impacts of animal nutrition on animal immunity and health.
