High Temperature Materials Systems, Emerging Applications, Materials and Science Gaps: A Workshop

High-Temperature Materials Systems are of increasing importance. Join the Academies for a workshop on May 10-11, 2022 to discuss Emerging Applications and Materials and Science Gaps for High-Temperature Materials Systems. Topics for the workshop include 1) Design Challenges in High-Temperature Materials Systems; 2) Manufacturing Challenges in High-Temperature Material Systems; and 3) Critical Research Needs Underpinning Design and Manufacturing for High-Temperature Materials.

Description

A planning committee established by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) will convene a public workshop over 2-3 days to discuss High Temperature Materials Systems, Emerging Applications, Materials and Science Gaps, including, but not limited to topics such as: 1) Design Challenges in High Temperature Materials Systems; 2) Manufacturing Challenges in High Temperature Material Systems; and 3) Critical Research Needs Underpinning Design and Manufacturing for High Temperature Materials. The planning committee will also consider the availability of US talent for addressing identified needs and the standing of the United States relative to other countries in the covered topics, as well as additional topics close to and in line with the three mentioned above when developing the workshop agenda and selecting and inviting speakers and discussants. The workshop will use a mix of individual presentations, panels, and question-and-answer sessions to develop an understanding of the relevant issues. A proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
