An ad hoc planning committee under the auspices of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will hold a two-day public workshop featuring invited speakers and discussants to be held in California to explore the population health, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and health equity consequences of increasingly strong and numerous wildfires, particularly in California. The workshop will be hosted by the Roundtables on Population Health Improvement; Promotion of Health Equity; Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine; and the Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies. The planning committee will be informed by ongoing and related activities by the California Department of Health, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and others. A proceedings of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
