The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Forum on Advancing Diagnostic Excellence hosted a hybrid public workshop in collaboration with the Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity, supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, on September 23-24. Discussions will explore current opportunities for improving equitable diagnosis within the U.S. health care system, with emphasis on populations at greatest risk of harm from diagnostic errors. The workshop featured invited presentations and discussions on:

Factors that create barriers in access to high-quality diagnosis

Strategies to reduce barriers to access, including ways to leverage community-centered approaches
Approaches to professional education and development to increase clinician cultural competence and awareness
The role of technologies and diagnostic innovations in reducing diagnostic disparities
Development and validation of measures for diagnostic equity
Research gaps and opportunities to enhance data collection for historically underrepresented and marginalized communities
