Topics

As a member of Partnership for Evidence-based Response to COVID-19 (PERC), The National Academies continues to work with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) on Phase 2 and 3 activities. NASEM oversees the peer-review process of PERC findings on public health and social measures (PHSMs) of COVID-19 in Africa by engaging African and US experts. NASEM also works with science academies across Africa to disseminate RTSL report messages to key audiences for informing and building country and regional-level capacity for evidence-based policy decisions.

Description

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will work with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) to support activities of RSTL’s Partnerships for Evidence-based Response to COVID-19 (PERC) in Africa. NASEM will identify and contract with African and U.S. experts with scientific and regional Africa expertise to serve as consultants and provide rapid peer review of draft reports, country briefs, and other findings developed by RTSL on public health and social measures (PHSMs) for COVID-19 in Africa. NASEM will work with academies of sciences throughout Africa and the African Academy of Sciences to disseminate report messages to key audiences, including government officials, relevant ministries, medical organizations, journalists, policymakers and other stakeholders. NASEM will also work with RTSL to build the country-level capacity of the PERC network in the targeted countries, in order to use collected data for response action planning at the policy and governmental levels; four to six countries will be targeted for this activity. No NASEM report will be produced.
