Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in collaboration with counterparts in China through the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will organize a series of three workshops to promote scientific coordination, cooperation, and collaboration between China and the United States on sustainability issues. The workshops will address different theme areas related to key sustainability topics such as climate change, biodiversity, urbanization, and human health, and their impact on long-term sustainability in both countries and around the world. Each workshop will examine the state of sustainability research and practices; identify priority areas for scientific collaboration on specific sustainability challenges; and discuss opportunities for advancing policy actions and the potential for new technology development and deployment by harnessing advances in science and engineering in China and the United States. Discussions will be related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goals 3 (good health and well-being); 7 (affordable and clean energy), 9 (resilient infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities); 13 (climate action); 15 (life on land); and 17 (partnerships for the goals). A proceedings of a workshop in brief for each workshop will be prepared by designated rapporteurs in accordance with institutional guidelines.
