Critical Infrastructure Security: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships

Completed

Further research into the cross-sector dependencies of critical infrastructure sectors and the cascading effects of a breach to any of these sectors is necessary to ensure the country’s critical infrastructure, and this research demands cross-sector collaboration and information sharing at nearly all levels. This meeting explored the state of critical infrastructure security in the United States and identified R&D priorities; methods of modeling and assessing vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure security to prevent breaches or minimize cascading effects; how communication across sectors and public-private partnerships can enhance critical infrastructure security, and how pending legislation impacts physical and cyber infrastructure security.

Description

An ad hoc committee will organize a public meeting on the role of public-private partnerships for improving critical infrastructure security to be held in conjunction with the February GUIRR meeting. The meeting will explore federal R&D priorities for critical infrastructure security and consider methods for modeling and assessing potential impacts to critical infrastructure in vulnerable sectors including telecommunication, finance, power, and transportation. The meeting will also consider pending legislation concerning cyber and physical infrastructure protection, and will discuss how cross-sector collaboration can reduce vulnerabilities to critical infrastructure. A brief rapporteur-authored summary will be published.
