An ad hoc planning committee will organize a workshop that will convene experts, practitioners, and noted leaders in innovative technologies and engineering to foster a discussion about the role advanced technologies, design innovation, and computational methods and practice can play in structural engineering and construction to promote more resilient communities; explore the role of advanced technologies and structural performance data in existing infrastructure and built systems to enhance resilience; discuss the future role of advanced technologies and design practice; and identify research gaps or opportunities in development and use of advance technologies and design for building resilient infrastructure.

An ad hoc planning committee will organize a one-day workshop in Irvine, California on Building More Resilient Communities Through Innovative Technologies and Design for the Built Environment. This workshop will consider how technological advancements in structural engineering and construction could play a major role in building more resilient and sustainable communities. The activity will convene experts, practitioners, and noted leaders in innovative technologies and engineering from the public, private, and academic communities to:
- Foster a discussion about the role advanced technologies, design innovation, and computational methods and practice can play in structural engineering and construction to promote more resilient communities;
- Explore the role of advanced technologies and structural performance data in existing infrastructure and built systems to enhance resilience;
- Discuss the future role of advanced technologies and design practice--what does a resilient city look like in the future? and
- Identify research gaps or opportunities in development and use of advance technologies and design for building resilient infrastructure
A workshop proceedings authored by a rapporteur will be issued.
