Supporting K-12 STEM education to create the foundations for innovation: A Workshop

Explore the intersection of K-12 STEM education, research, and workforce development at an upcoming workshop by the Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable. Leaders from government, industry, and academia, as well as experts in K-12 STEM education, will discuss the future of STEM education and how to encourage early innovative and entrepreneurial skills to prepare an innovation-driven workforce of the future. Participants will learn about strategies for regional education programs promoting science-based economic development and how the landscape of K-12 STEM education is constantly evolving and hear experts map the trajectory of early STEM initiatives.

Description

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will organize a workshop to consider how the K-12 educational pipeline can be supported by the US research enterprise across diverse sectors to encourage workforce development and enhance future innovation and entrepreneurship. Senior leaders from government, university, industry, and philanthropy will convene with educational experts to discuss the evolving state of K-12 STEM education, early entrepreneurship education and the future of the STEM workforce. They will also explore how to encourage science based economic development through regional education programs, and mapping the future of early STEM education to prepare an innovation-based workforce. A rapporteur-authored proceedings-in brief will be published summarizing the workshop.
