Description

To inform the work of the Innovation Policy Forum, an ad hoc planning committee under the oversight of the Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy (STEP) and the Committee on Science, Technology and Law (CSTL) will organize a workshop to explore international issues surrounding reform of the patent system and other intellectual property rights systems in key emerging markets. The planning committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers, and moderate the discussion. The workshop will address the status of the patent systems in emerging markets, efforts needed to harmonize these systems, and the potential economic, competitive, and technological impact of current reforms in these countries on the U.S. Attention will also be given to important lessons from advanced economies regarding current or potential policy directions in intellectual property rights reforms. An unedited transcript of the workshop will be produced and posted online.
